Budget & Policy Issues
The Office of Education supports and monitors aid for nonpublic school students at both the state and federal levels. Currently, the total for nonpublic school state aid in the Fiscal Year 2010 budget is more than $94,000,000 (exclusive of Nonpublic School Transportation Services which are estimated at over $61,000,000 for the 2009-2010 school year).
With respect to state programs for nonpublic school students, the following are included:
a) Nonpublic Textbook Aid,
b) Nonpublic Auxiliary Service Aid
c) Nonpublic Handicapped Aid
d) Nonpublic Auxiliary/Handicapped Transportation Aid
e) Nonpublic Nursing Services Aid
f) Nonpublic Technology Initiative THIS INITIATIVE WAS ELIMINATED FOR GOV. CORZINE’S FY ’10 BUDGET
g) Transportation Aid Under the Provisions of NJSA 18 A: 39-1 et seq
Federal aid programs include specific Titles under No Child Left Behind and the nonpublic proportional share under IDEIA. Although specific amounts for the NCLB programs are not calculated for nonpublic school students on a statewide basis, the 2009-2010 IDEIA aid is over $18,900,000. Additionally, for the current year, $20,965,320 in ARRA funds are available under IDEIA.
